Welcome To York
Some places feel like a story the moment you arrive.
For me, York was exactly that.
Did you know that York has over 2,000 years of history hidden in its streets?

To truly understand the city, I joined a walking tour starting outside the stunning York Minster. As the group gathered and the guide waited for everyone to arrive, I realised this wasn’t going to be just a tour, it was going to be a journey through time.
And then, the tour began.

Another memorable stop was the ruins of St Mary’s Abbey, located inside the beautiful museum gardens. Standing there, surrounded by the remains of a once powerful abbey, it’s hard not to imagine what life must have been like centuries ago.

One of the most iconic streets we visited during the tour was The Shambles. With its narrow path and leaning medieval buildings, it feels like stepping into another era. The street is filled with small shops and charming details that make it one of the most photographed places in York.

Exploring More After the Tour
The walking tour finished around 1:30 PM, but I still had time before heading back. So I decided to keep exploring York on my own.
One place I couldn’t miss was the National Railway Museum.

Hidden Shopping Gems
While walking around earlier, I noticed a few interesting shops that I wanted to come back to before heading to the bus stop.
One of them was Daisy York.

a charming shop filled with unique gifts and cute finds.

It’s a lovely little shop where you can find quirky gifts, decorations, and things you didn’t know you needed.

Another stop was Oliver Bonas.
If you enjoy stylish accessories, home décor, or thoughtful gifts, this shop is definitely worth visiting, especially if you love cosy sweaters.

A Tour Worth Taking
If you’re visiting York, I highly recommend taking the walking tour I booked with White Rose York Tours.
It’s actually highly rated on Tripadvisor, and it’s one of the best ways to learn about the city’s history while exploring its most iconic places.
If you’re planning a trip to York, you can check the tour details and book it through their TripAdvisor page.

York is the kind of city that invites you to slow down.
To walk without rushing.
To look around.
And to discover stories in the places you least expect.
